Meet the DHDC Directors and Managers who are dedicated to giving you New Discoveries Every Visit!

Dr. Aaron D. Pan, Executive Director

Ph.D. in Geology/Paleobotany, SMU
B.A. in Creative Studies – Biology, UCSB

Aaron Pan was born in San Francisco, CA, and grew up in Amarillo, TX. Aaron is the Executive Director of the Don Harrington Discovery Center. Prior to his directorship, Aaron was the Curator of Science at the Fort Worth Museum of Science. He is also currently a research associate at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas, an adjunct research assistant professor in the Roy M. Huffington Department of Earth Sciences, SMU, a board member of the Amarillo Botanical Garden’s Board of Trustees and Amarillo Convention and Visitors Council, and chairman of the Convention and Tourism Committee for the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce.  Dr. Pan’s research interests includes the evolutionary history, floristics, and paleoecology of African Cenozoic tropical moist and wet forest ecosystems and the flora and lepidopteran fauna of the Southern Rockies.

Kyle Hadley, Director of Education

B.S. in Education from Oklahoma State University

Kyle's hobbies include sailing, playing ultimate frisbee and working on crafts in his garage. Kyle says, 'I've got a beautiful and talented wife and two fury kids, a corgi named Stout and an Aussie mix named Bullet. Go Pokes!' He also adds, 'I love the community that the Discovery Center brings in. The DHDC gives you the ability to learn and expand your education and mind through breaking the stereotypical molds of society. It's incredible to see a child come in smiling and leave with an even bigger smile.'

Mandi Ried, Director of Visitor Experience

B.A. in Biology from Harding University
Arkansas Teacher Certification for 8-12 Biology and Earth Science 2006 - 2009

Born and raised in Amarillo, Mandi attended Harding University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a certification to teach grades 8-12 biology and earth science.  She has worked for DHDC for many years now and she loves her job.  Mandi serves as the Director of Visitor Experience which entails overseeing over summer camps, family events, and day to day programing among other things.  In her free time Mandi likes spending time with her two daughters as well as enjoying the outdoors. Mandi says, “I love working at DHDC because it is always changing with new exhibits around the corner.”

Arthur Tucker, Maintenance & Exhibits Director

Arthur, also known as ‘Tucker’ by his co-workers, graduated high school in 1996 in Ray, North Dakota. He then served as Communications Repair in the Marine Corps from 1997 to 2002.  Arthur has an Applied Science degree in renewable energy and graduated with honors in 2010, and is currently obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technologies. Mr. Tucker has an extensive knowledge in mechanical and electrical solutions.  Arthur is married to a wonderful woman named Rebecca since 2011. He loves animals and has 6 dogs (Jerry, Tom, Barney, Daphne, Dez, and Rowdy). Arthur and Rebecca will welcome their first child in December 2016.
Tucker says, ‘ I love working at the Discovery Center because the staff and visitors are always a pleasure to interact with’.

Bridget Gervasi, Administrative Manager

Bridget Gervasi is the Administrative Manager of the Don Harrington Discovery Center.  Originally from Canyon, Bridget holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from West Texas A&M University.  After teaching 2nd grade in Afton, Texas, Bridget returned to Canyon to pursue her education in Management and start her family.   Prior to coming to the Discovery Center, she was the Executive Director of Sylvan Learning Center for eight years.   Bridget is married to Terry and they have three boys;  London ,  Azzan and Nicholas.  Bridget enjoys reading, gardening, crafts and helping with the family business. Bridget says,  “The best part of working at the DHDC is the family-friendly environment and endless opportunities.”

Amanda Barnett, Outreach Educator

B.A. in Studio Art, West Texas A&M University

Amanda is the Outreach Educator for the Don Harrington Discovery Center and is responsible for traveling to Region 16 schools outside of Potter and Randall counties to bring the fun of science to outlying districts. She has worked for the DHDC for more than 4 years and has enjoyed getting to know the ins and outs of educating schools and interacting with guests to enrich their museum visit. Amanda has spent most of her life in Amarillo and is a proud Amarillo High Sandie. She attended Amarillo College before progressing to WT to pursue a degree in Studio Art.  Some of her favorite classes included Educational Psychology and Glass Blowing. In her free time, she enjoys painting, reading, and playing music on one of her many instruments. Amanda says, “I have loved every minute of working at the DHDC. Getting to see people’s faces light up when they walk in and knowing that they’re excited about learning is the reason we do what we do!”

Hillary Wells, Administrative Assistant

Hillary is the Administrative Assistant in charge of Reservations, Memberships, and the Gift Shop. She has been with the Discovery Center since 2011. Hillary has spent most of her life living in Amarillo and attended Amarillo Colleges Pharmacy Tech Program. In her free time Hillary likes to a spend time with her family, work on sewing projects, and travel. Hillary says, “I love working here because I learn and see new things every day.”

Shanna Collins, Development Events and Marketing Coordinator

Shanna responsible in part for communicating all of the wonderful things that the DHDC has to offer to their members and the public. She is also in charge of planning special development events. Shanna has a bachelor's degree in Marketing from The University of Mississipi (Hotty Toddy!) and has worked in development and marketing for over 10 years.
